INTRODUCTION AND COURSE OBJECTIVES:
The main goal of Math 1006 is to build algebra skills. Specifically, the course is designed to bring together the ideas and concepts concerned with solving equations (linear, quadratic, absolute value, rational and other equations). This includes building knowledge of how to set up equations based on word problems, solving the equations, and making sense of the answer in terms of the original problem. You will also learn about the graphical representation of some of these functions and will be able to graph lines and quadratics.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
You will need access to your Brooklyn College email account and should be comfortable using it. The college provides an email account for all students. This will be the account from which you will receive information, such as announcements, about the course. You must have your Brooklyn College e-mail as preferred e-mail on Brightspace and CUNYfirst.
Announcements
will be made on Brightspace. Please read all the announcements on time and carefully.

Homework is assigned for each section on MyOpenMath and to be completed by the due date. There are NO extensions given. You can start any time before the due date. Your work will be saved as you go along, so you don’t have to complete all the problems in one sitting. Until the due date, you may reattempt any problem until you receive full credit for it. The highest grade is your score.
Two Exams
Two exams will be given during the semester. The material will be drawn from what we covered in class as well as from MyOpenMath. Exams will take place over the weekend on MyOpenMath, more information is available on MyOpenMath.
Departmental Final
The departmental final will take place at the end of the semester. A student who does not take the final examination is given the grade F=failure. More information will be provided.
